Project Overview.
Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets.
Headquartered in Santiago, Chile, the M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world.
Job Summary.
Based in Brisbane, this position reports to the Mining & Metals Financial Services Manager and interfaces with deployed finance personnel, Global Business Unit management, and project teams globally to resolve project issues.
The successful candidate must be willing to relocate to either an AUS or international project assignment as the opportunity arises.
This position will provide professional financial/economic support services requiring use of quantitative analytical techniques, with minimal supervision.
This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project.
Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.
Major Responsibilities.
Performs research and participates in the preparation of reports, presentations, and charts related to financial or economic issues.
Review of contract proposal documentation for adequacy and compliance to good business practice and accounting standards.
Review of the awarded contract commercial terms and involve project and Job Accounting Data Base staff as needed, to create the proper set-up of the Job Accounting Data Base.
In instances when a new business environment is entered, co-ordinate with the Compliance team to assure that all statutory and accounting standards are identified, and responsibility is assigned.
Co-ordinate the completion of the project start-up template for all new projects.
Provide direct Finance support to assigned projects.
Assist the various Project Accounting teams on an as needed basis.
Provide support to the Global Business Unit CFO as directed.
Assist Financial Services Manager with the development of metrics application to deployed personnel to improve performance.
Review the monthly Cost to Cost process and reporting of Gross Margin for the GBU.
Participate in the preparation and review of Project Financial Status Reports.
Conduct Global Business Unit level financial reviews of existing projects.
Lead the annual project purge effort.
Work with transactional groups (e.
.
AP, Billing, Payroll) to resolve issues and identify common problems across all projects/Global Business Units.
Assist with the resolution of audit queries, both internal and external.
Perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements.
A four-year degree from an accredited institution with a major in Accounting or Finance and at least 7 - 10 years of accounting experience in the engineering, procurement, and construction industry.
Must be willing and able to relocate anywhere in the world and undertake global business travel as needed.
Required Knowledge and Skills.
Language capability in Spanish.
Above average organizational skills with the ability to function in a matrix organization and simultaneously handle numerous tasks of varying degrees of complexity.
Able to work independently or as part of a team and use good judgment in the execution of assigned tasks including the ability to seek direction as needed.
Prior work experience in payroll, accounts payable, client billing and general ledger.
Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
Prior Oracle Financials experience and proficiency with MS office suite.
