Reporting to the Senior Lead, Water Resources, the Senior Environmental Coordinator is responsible for water quality monitoring and management, including regulatory compliance reporting, and related community engagement.
This includes, assessing and supporting the ongoing management and compliance of regional and local permits associated with our operations.
The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to implement HVC’s Water Governance and Environmental Management Systems.
We are looking for someone with the ability to stay organized and thrive in a fast paced, team environment.
Who has strong analytical and decision-making abilities with a capacity for practical problem solving.
Most importantly, we require someone who has outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, who can help engage with surrounding Indigenous governments and organizations.
The position also requires a broad base of scientific knowledge, technical skills, and environmental project management experience to be successful.
You will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with regulatory partners, the public, and other departments within Teck.
Responsibilities.
Be a courageous safety leader; lead by example and foster a proactive safety and sustainability culture based on Teck’s values of health, safety, environment, and indigenous and community engagement.
Manage environmental water sampling and monitoring programs to confirm regulatory compliance and environmental conditions Oversee the collection and interpretation of chemical, physical, and biological tests and analysis, specifically in the field of water quality and acid rock drainage and metal leaching Use the site-wide water quality model as a decision-making tool for planning and operations Manage contractors and consultants to ensure work is being conducted safely and in accordance with project scope and budget Understand applicable permits, regulations and associated compliance requirements Develop scopes of work, review technical reports, regulatory submissions and contribute to environmental assessments Provide strategic advice about regulatory compliance and permitting Act as a point of contact for environmental compliance for site personnel, regulators, and Indigenous Governments and Organizations Lead technical engagement with Indigenous Governments and Organizations  Collaborate closely with site departments to facilitate environmental education and compliance assurance Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications.
Degree in Environmental Studies, Engineering, Earth Sciences (Biology, Geography, Geology, Forestry, Agriculture), Chemistry or Natural Resource field Minimum seven years of experience in the field of environmental compliance or monitoring, in an industrial environment Specific experience in mine water management and water quality monitoring program design and execution, assessment and data interpretation are considered a strong asset.
Working understanding of relevant federal and provincial environmental legislation, standards, and effective industry practices.
Experience with environmental data management software (GIS/EQuIS) and proficient with Microsoft Office Suite® Experience in interpreting and applying relevant environmental and waste legislation, standards, and effective industry practices Experience in developing and maintaining relationships and partnerships with stakeholders (including Indigenous Governments and Organizations, industry partners, and/or federal, provincial or local governments) Strong analytical and decision-making abilities with a proven capacity for practical problem solving.
Mechanical aptitude is considered an asset.
