Company Description WJ has an exciting opportunity to join our team in Wellington as part of the UK’s leading road marking and highway safety business.
We deliver high-performance, award-winning solutions to the strategic road network, local authority and private markets.
Job Description This new role will see the successful applicant joining our South West business at their modern, purpose built regional head office in Wellington, Somerset.
The role will also require travelling to our other South West offices and Clients, along with occasional travel to the wider WJ business units across the UK so a full driving licence will be required.
The successful candidate will be managing the commercial aspects across a variety of Clients and contract types, and ideally will have a background in highways contracting such as civils or surfacing.
Managing different options of NEC4 contracts would also be an advantage.
In this role the individual will be responsible for a number of projects from inception to completion thus ensuring continuity on each contract.
This role could also suit an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor who is looking to work in a dynamic environment and for the next step in their career.
The role will involve being part of a team, working closely with operational colleagues to ensure schemes are being delivered in accordance with the contract conditions, mitigating commercial risk and ensuring all claimable items are invoiced accurately.
The position incorporates the following positions of responsibility.
• Preparation and submission of estimates (when required) • Procurement of subcontractors & placing orders • Handling contract administration including advising on commercial contractual position under the subcontracts • Tendering and full costing of contracts • Measurement of main/sub contract works / take-offs • Identification, valuation and agreement of compensation events • Preparation of Final Accounts with full supporting back-up • Provide accurate commercial forecasts of activity and margins Qualifications Ideally you will have a degree in Quantity Surveying OR a construction related discipline with at demonstrable experience within a similar position and industry.
You should also have.
Strong analytical and numerical skills.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in work.
Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to liaise with clients, contractors, and stakeholders effectively.
Proactive, problem-solving mindset and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
